Insulation Removal
Loose-Fill/Blown-In Insulation Removal
Many homeowners need to replace this type of insulation in order to install new insulation. Whether it is outdated, contaminated by rodents, or covered with debris and dirt, we have the solution to get rid of it. In this process we use a high-powered vacuum connected to a 150 foot hose. The vacuum is positioned outside the home and a large volume filter bag is used to collect the insulation. This process is not only efficient, but also keeps the home from being further contaminated by the insulation being removed from your attic or crawlspace. Below is an example of our High-Powered Vacuum in action. This attic had loose-fill, or blown-in, insulation which was higher than the joists. When finished the Loose-Fill Insulation was completely removed and the Homeowner was able to begin termite treatments.

We also remove batt insulation, the type of insulation that comes in strips or rolls. Removing this type of is much easier than removing the insulation mentioned above. Another big reason homeowners replace insulation is their electricity bills. If they have began soaring in the recent years, the age and condition of your insulation may be a contributing factor.

Benefits of Insulation Removal & Replacement
There are quite a few different choices available to you when it comes to methods of insulation - in fact the process can become a little confusing if you don't have any knowledge of what the suggested levels of insulating for your area are, or if you don't have access to the advice of a qualified professional. Make no mistake about it though, a properly insulated attic has many benefits that make it a very worthwhile investment, some of which you may not even be aware of beyond removing pest contamination.
Increase in Comfort
Having a properly insulated attic, after having become accustomed to living in an environment where there was either little insulation to accommodate the area's climate, or no insulation at all, will dramatically improve the level of comfort you experience in your home from season to season.
It's almost a matter of common knowledge that the proper insulation will help keep your home warmer in the winter months, but what you may not know is that proper attic insulation can also help to keep your home cooler during the heat waves of the summer.
Insulation essentially creates a barricade effect that won't allow the drastic differences in air temperature outside of your home invade the inside - so the warmth given off by your heating system and the cool air distributed by your air conditioner can do their jobs as efficiently and effectively as possible, regardless of the air temperature outside of your home.
Saving Money
In conjunction with the increase in comfort that you'll enjoy, a properly insulated attic will also help to save you a good deal of money on your energy bills.
By creating a seal with insulation and preventing the outside elements from intruding into your home, both your heating and your cooling systems will have to work a lot less to produce the same results.
Using less of the resources that are necessary to heat and cool your home, whether your systems are powered by electricity, by natural gas, or by home heating oil - the more money you will be able to save.
Lastly, there are several incentives that will help you with the cost of re-insulating your attic. We can provide you with information on each of the programs available upon hiring us as your re-insulation company. With a free inspection we can give you an idea of the savings you can find through these guaranteed programs.
Removing Insulation due to Severe Infestation
We received a call earlier this year from a customer that needed their insulation removed because they have heard rats in their attic for the past few years. They realized their problem after a HVAC technician inspected their attic and said he would not do the work until the insulation was removed or the attic was cleaned. Upon inspection we found one of the most severe infestations we have ever seen. We obviously recommended insulation removal and re-installation.
The trickiest part of insulation removal is dealing with the heat in the attic. We always wear our protective equipment while working in the attic which adds layers on top of our work clothing. The only good thing about this job was the size of the attic. It was approximately 800 square feet of insulation, smaller than the average attic we work in. In this instance there was Batt insulation to be removed, the Pink Panther type. The insulation was literally matted down due to the amount urine and feces soiling the top. We removed the insulation by lifting it up out of the joists and placing each piece in a trash bag. This is one of the most dangerous parts of the work, because this is when the insulation is being disturbed along with the contamination. When the particles of contamination become airborne is when there is a possibility of inhalation of the contaminated particles and contraction of diseases or a virus. Nasty stuff! After we removed all the insulation we thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated the area with BioShield.
The last step in the process where to install new insulation after the old had been removed. We are all trained technicians in installing insulation and make sure we abide by all regulations in order to install the new insulation properly. In every step of the insulation removal and re-insulation process our Personal Protective Equipment is at work. In this step it keeps us from inhaling the insulation as well as protects our skin from irritation. Once we installed the insulation throughout the attic the job was complete.
